I warn you not to start the Muslims vs rest debate here....I would say most (not all) people are fanatics will do any attrocity in the name of religion. How would letting "people" know that there is a problem help? The only people that matter are politicians.
I tried to determine, on a separate thread, the wait times for EB-2 India, EB-3 ROW, and EB-3 India.
ANd I failed miserably. My models didn't make much sense. So I quit trying to come up with a reasonable, mathematical, estimate on the wait times.
The reason I was trying to determine wait times, was so that I could then convince people to join and contribute for IV. Basically, a media campaign, geared towards our base.
Anyway, the point of this post is this. I don't need reasonable, mathematical estimates. Maybe, all I need is a quote. A quote from someone knowledgeable, like Aman. Or some lawyers association. Some chimpanzee from USCIS. I don't know. Just something that says 'It will take 10-15 years for EB-3 India to get their greencards.' Or something like that for EB-3 ROW/EB-2 India.
That could be used to let people know that there IS a problem. Trust me. A huge majority doesn't even know that there is a problem.

Dont worry dude.my pd is eb2 Jul07 and my L1 expired in Dec.My company applied for my H1 in sep 09 and it was approved in 3 weeks without RFE. Some of my friends in consulting got RFEs for renewal but was eventually approved atleast until the date of contract.

I am really worried because these days people are getting rejections for H1 renewals. When my time comes for renewal I want to have the EAD as a backup in case H1 renewal gets rejected.

What you are talking here is the Eb1-EA category.. and not the general EB1 category..
The EB1 Category is primarily meant for inter company transfers. Most of the people who qualify to get GC under this category come to US through the inter company transfer route and are primarily on L1-A work visa. Folks under L1-A do not require a labor certification and directly file I-140 /485 unlike people who come on L1-b visa which is also inter company transfer and requires a person to file a labor certification in US and then file GC under Eb2 or Eb3 as the case may be.
It�s surprising that Eb1 is current for India. Going by the facts.. the top 3 IT companies had shipped most of their project folks infact every other person to US under L1-A in the last few years when H1-b was under scrutiny for these companies. Most of these people who came under L1-A should have applied for GC under Eb1 which should have retrogressed the dates for EB1 also. The only logical reason for this that these companies are being very selective in doing GC now unlike in the past when a lot of people had got GC under this category.. and the date for EB1 for India had retrogressed in beginning of 2006..
That apart the other reason why this category is current is that most of the staffing companies aka.. body shoppers cannot use this route to get people to US.. because they need to have full-fledged profitable operations overseas�. and the person being sponsored should have atleast worked for 365 days outside US for the company. The consulates do a complete check before giving an authorization under L1-A or L1-B category..

The topic is USCIS's memo. Why are fellow IVans discussing H1 versus L1 versus outsourcing. For some reason, a few people here think that all issues are caused by either big Indian companies or small desi companies. Some believe that getting rid of the consulting business model will accelerate their PR application. Wonder what is being achieved from these "lively" debates other than feeding the other side with enough ammo to decimate all of us. I still believe that our focus is immigration reform. Macaca is right about "self inflicted wound".

You benefited from ISN (IV predecessor)'s efforts to get AC21 passed with a visa recapture. That visa recapture lifted the retrogression that had set in by 2000. Without that recapture (worth 100K+ visas) it is doubtful your PD would be current today.

I don't think there is much I disagree with you. You are right about most things. Especiallly, that it is not an exact science. A lot depends upon how many applicants there are, and how many numbers are increased, and how much the country limits are increased by.
I also don't think that the country limits will go away totally. They will probably just increase them. But you never know. Espeically, because at some point, they will go to the point system, and then who knows whats going to happen to us.
Also, its not that I am concerned about what is GOOD JUST FOR ME. (BTW, its not just me, its about a third of IV) I am more worried about what is bad for me.

One thing, assume if it works out and 50% of the people are able to buy houses and get the GC, they are out of the queue right, so automatically the back logs are gone and the remaining people not able to buy the house will get benifited.

There is the freedom to change jobs and apply for a new TN each time. There is no 6 year or any sort of time cap - TN can be renewed indefinitely..a TN only costs $50 to renew for each year and can be filed without an attorney by mail. No need to physcially go anywhere.
Drawbacks.
1. Spouses/Dependents get TD which is as restrictive as H4
2. There is a fixed list of professions and minimum education qualifications that you/your intended employment HAVE to satisfy to qualify for a TN. Experience cannot be used to substitute lack of education..

this depends on the number of approvals and not on the number of applications received. Even if there are tons of applications received, unless there are enough approvals happening simultaneously, dates would not retrogress in the middle of the month.
USCIS had approvals before dates moved. USCIS knows the number of such approvals.
These approvals are getting GC before approval of current applicants. If earlier approvals use up quotas, retrogression does not have to wait for current approvals.
