TSA/CBP officers are no angels and are known to be rude to passengers at times. Having said that, I think we are all over reacting to SRK incident. Even the famous American Ted Kennedy had to face similar situation. GOI should lay off this incident.

My friend bought a house at the Elginton and Avenue in Toronto for $350K in 1998. The house is now worth $950K.
My sister bought a house in Markham in 2005 for $265K and it is now worth $325K. That's almost 20% in 3 years.
This must be the stagnant Canadian real estate market you are talking about.
The recent growth in the US real estate market is the highest escalation in US history. It is well recognized as a function of the earlier tech bubble and loan availability. Some people are also now expecting severe consequences econonically because of it. Housing is almost certainly likely to return to normal growth patterns moving forward.

If USCIS is not efficient, cut off dates do not help much for pending I-485s even if there is a horizontal spill over. If USCIS is efficient, there is nothing to argue, EB2 will be benefited as analyzed by vdlrao , me and many other here. I am only trying to say that USCIS efficiency and its 'Target' for each year is a crucial factor when it comes to speculation. The number of visas approved is directly proportional to agency's efficiency and its set target. Depending on that, some parameters in our calculations change . For example, If they do not use the FB to EB spill over, we will be less by 20k for the year. If USCIS and DOS only utilize 130K out of 140K, we will be less by 10K more.
I am not pessimistic and please note that I am not contradicting any one. I my self did detailed analysis in May 2008 saying that it will wonderful year for EB2. Please find the post here.

Can we do some call campaign to wake-up USCIS and tell them how frustrated we are with its processing?
OR
Can we fax a letter to USCIS director explaining our issues and how frustrated with the way USCIS is working and tell them our suggestions to improve the processing standards and efficiency?
Any other thoughts from any one?

Although people from desi consulting companies are generally not the "best", but when compared to the population of those immigrants through family relationship or even lottery, their skill level is still much higher.
To be honest, I do agree that the US needs qualified people with skillsets. The real question is "Are the people from the desi consulting companies the real qualified lot ? " Just to get my background details out of the way. I am a new member, from India ofcourse, and I have recently applied for my citizenship. Now with this huge deluge of immigrants, especially from the desi consulting companies, I feel that my quality of life is getting adversely impacted. Do not rush to conclusions that I am anti Indian or anti immigrant. 12 years back when I first got my H1 visa, the requirements to qualify were strict. Staffing companies to a decent extent followed rules and tried to get the best and the brightest. Once the dot com boom started, people from all walks of life entered IT. This was true of not just the Indians but also of people in the US. Soon after the bust, the value proposition from these staffing companies was simply low cost. This is not to blame the staffing companies. They behaved in an economically rational way.
Consider this scenario. If you run a consulting company, wouldn't you try to maximize your profits by staffing people in projects at the least cost ? This is econmically rational. You wouldn't worry much about the quality of the deliverables and all you would care is to dump as many bodies as possible at the client site or offshore and get the maximum bang for the buck.
In this scenario, how is it feasible to expect immigrational justice when the bodies themselves dont provide exceptional talent and skills but simply offer low cost ? Now you would be tempted to bring in the analogous case of illegal low skilled immigrants. Remember they are just that - low skilled workers. They dont "steal" the jobs of high skilled workers. But this dumping of IT workforce has completely brought down the standard of living of the IT workers here. To be honest, those who get green cards today would feel the same way five years from now when the next wave of so called "skilled IT immigrants" offer even lower wages and destroy the quality of life.
In summary, this retrogression is good in a way. The truly best and the brightest would still be employed until their turn for adjournment comes in. Only the weak are currently scared of the delays. I went through the same torrid GC phase after the tech meltdown in 2001. I was not worried of my job then but many people whom I knew got clobbered and were forced to leave. This is the darwinian flush and it will take its toll. Trust me this the bitter truth. If you people still consider that all the people on H1/L1 are part of the best and the brightest, they are WRONG. Only a small % (probably 20%) are the true best and the brightest and a good 50% will be flushed out. Sorry to say this and hey give me the red dots.

To change the law, we as IV are lobbying and meeting lawmakers already.

Do you think with a cordinated effort on part of the IV members that we could/should write a well drafted letter to the USCIS to not target H1b worker for the cause of unemployment. Highlighting the various well researched articles that clearly say that H1b creates/retains jobs and the more they target H1b the more employment is affected. The real problem is outsourcing.

You can then ask me to give you a "gift" of lets say $30,000 and in due course you will employ me in that position. Technically this is illegal, just like it is to take campaign contributions to vote in a certain way...But in practice it is hard to establish quid pro quo in these cases. More so when the person is willingly paying the money and is not willing to turn on the seller. So people who say you can buy LCs legally are WRONG.

Opposing Sonia Gandhi's [Images] sudden rise in politics only on the grounds of her foreign origin were leaders like Sharad Pawar [Images] and P A Sangma. That was the first scandal in independent India.

Mookerjee's martyrdom compelled the Nehru government to remove the permit system and the two heads of state.
Then we had the Mundhra scandal, the Nagarwala case, the L N Mishra murder. The Jana Sangh's fast-emerging leader Deendayal Upadhyaya was murdered. A Congress leader canvassed openly against the official Presidential candidate and supported her own choice as independent nominee. The original Congress symbol was a pair of oxen. After the official Congress broke up, they got the hand as a temporary symbol till the case is finally settled. It would never be.
Opposing Sonia Gandhi's [Images] sudden rise in politics only on the grounds of her foreign origin were leaders like Sharad Pawar [Images] and P A Sangma. Old Congressmen still feel sad that they lost dynamic and promising leaders of substance like Rajesh Pilot, Madhavrao Scindia and Jitendra Prasada, who could have steered the Congress on an entirely different and strong nationalist course. And a veteran like Sitaram Kesri was humiliated no end.
The only non-dynasty prime minister to run a Congress government for full five years successfully was insulted even in his death and his body-in-state was not allowed to enter the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. An airport in his home state to be named after him was opposed to by Congressmen although the proposal was put forth by an Opposition leader.

Technically I can change my country of citizenship any number of times in my life (cannot, if struck like this GC limbo) or even religion but I cannot change my ethnicity even once because I'm born into it.
I agree Sri Lanka is a sovereign country but why did India poke its nose on the pre-1971 Pakistan and created a new country Bangladesh. Is there a different standard for different people with the Indian govt policies?
Even If I had not got the opportunity to come this great nation United States of America, land of free and country of brave, I would have done whatever I could in India to help the beleaguered Sri Lankan Tamils and protested against the policies of Govt of India toward this issue.
I�m upfront about showing my resentment towards my country of birth and I �don�t show false patriotism/nationalism towards India like other Pseudo-Nationalists, who internally betray India at any moment and ready to change their nationality at the next opportunity but externally portray that they are the guardian of India and it is their soul. I currently live in a country, where even burning the national flag is considered a form of protest, if someone thinks that expressing resentment to India or protesting against her policy is unpatriotic, grow up guys.

Eventhough from a humanitarian point of view, I feel UPA should work with Srilankan government to work out peace. However it is not because the people being killed are Tamilians , who speak the same language as people from my neighbouring state.

Body shops aka desi dallas have bad business practices as someone just mentioned - all they do is provide a TAX ID.....nothing else.
You have to find a project on your own, no pay on bench, no proper office space - renting 2 rooms doesn't make a company, no benefits or medical insurance. Since an H1-B person requires an employer to do paper work - that is all what they do.
As someone just mentioned, this rule is not against H1-Bs but against such ppl who have bad business practices. Not all desi dallas are bad - 10-15% are good also.

I disagree. Christ still needs a passport and has to go through immigration check at port of entry to land in US. The easiest for HIM is to get an F-1 visa and then change to H1-B and apply a Green card.

Our PM, MMS in the last 5 years never visited all the states in the country. He never established contact with aam aadmi. MMS needs certificate from Rahul Gandhi that he is doing a good job. The person who has self respect will never become PM in these circumstances. MMS is holding PM's chair until Rahul Gandhi becomes "mature" enough to rule..yes rule..because this family has always ruled the nation and never governed it.

The question doesn't arise because he is SRK or APJ or in future Manmohan singh. The point is does it take TWO HOURS to find the identity of the person. How did you feel when you were questioned for an hour at the POE even after staying here for 9 years and stay in US legally and paying taxes etc.. can't they have better immigration procedures in place to identify legal from illegal (LIKE biometric finger printing, etc). They have this sophisticated computer information network.. if you give your SSN they can find any data they want.. about your employer, about your pay roll, your taxes etc.. then why this delay at POE to idenfity geniune people from entering US. These actions look totally racist to me. Don't you think these (US) people know how to improve this system.. they can but there is no will to do so.. Just look at priority dates how they swing +5 years to -5 years every year (2000 to 2005). It looks like someone just picks any year between 2000 to 2005 based on his mood. Can't this developed country have a software system to predict visa number availability or to predict how the dates should advance and by how much... this is want really sucks.. this so called developed country doesn't have a system in place for immigration issues.. Just look at the people who got their green cards who's priority dates were 2006 and people from 2002 or 2003 are still waiting.. how can their system (software) allow people with older dates to wait while someone with PD 2006 get their GC.. Things can be better managed and controlled with total transperancy but there is no WILL to do so.. i am not sure if IV can play any role in pushing some reforms to have a better system in place. There was another thread discussing about IO officers visting to employee office to find geniune applications and for more details.. this is simple waste of money and resources with SSN can give you almost 90% of the details.... overall the frustration is about the System and not about SRK or APJ.
