I wish Apple would keep features at a minimum. My current phone has so many features that I don't use. I don't care if it can surf the internet nor do I care if it can take pictures. Could I just get a phone with a great address book that syncs really well with my mac? I just want an excellent way to keep control of my contacts, that's it. Any mobile phone companies out there listening? Stop putting features in that I don't care about.

Does anyone know if you can now print highlighted text like you can in Windows? Since they're adding the age old full-screen window feature, I think this feature would also be a welcome addition.

This story reeks. I would sooner expect Apple to acquire AMD than I would for them to make yet another architecture switch.
Assuming this rumor is true who said that this would be instead of Intel on laptops? Maybe it's in addition to Intel?

it is very good news that Amazon jumped into the water first. now it places the pressure on Apple. Apple will juice up their service (if it already wasn't) to top what Amazon is offering.
Fingers crossed this happens. If Apple can release a product that syncs your personal data wirelessly and painlessly (ala Android) and pair it with syncing your media wirelessly and painlessly (like this Amazon product) they'll finally have gotten to where they need to be.

A few of my friends just don't get it until they see what I'm talking about. Example, my friend swore his 32" 1080p HDTV gave him all this 'real estate' until I showed him the 27" iMac.
I hope there's higher resolutions coming.

It's true...but I don't see it changing anytime soon. Americans are used to getting free or cheap phones when they sign up for a carrier contract. The carriers subsidize the cost so that expensive phones can be had for <$200. They RARELY pay full retail price ($300-$700) on a phone...mainly only when they break theirs and still have time on their contract. The way I understand it, the rest of the world pays full retail everytime they want a new phone. Is this right?
In Europe, it is pretty much the same as in the US, most people get their cell phone with a contract.

I've always expected Apple to switch to a pre-Christmas release -- like October/November -- to dominate the "Christmas present chatter" every year.

First of all, some inflation is ok, and normal as long as it doesn't get too high. And how does money sitting in a bank account, or under my mattress create jobs? If nobody is buying anything then the economy goes down, that has been shown many times.
Poor people spend more of their money to cover basic necessities, so inflation effects them much more. Inflation is a dishonest tax because people don't understand it as a tax. Some morons even think some inflation is a good thing. Rather than have income tax, the government could just have the fed create all the money they want to spend. Instead, they know they have to spread it out. If I made 100k, roughly 35% would go to the fed, 10.6% will go to California, 1-5% will go to local. Then there's property taxes. Then if I want to spend the money, there's a 9.75% sales tax. And the government can't make due on that money, so they either borrow or print. When you print, that is pure inflation. It's like pouring water into a pool. The water level might not seem to rise exactly as much as you put in because of the volatility. When the government borrows, the principal doesn't chase goods, but our interest payments do. Once, they mature, they will start chasing goods. So inflation is another tax that the government can play with when they need more spending money. Compare the governments measurement of inflation, CPI, with the headlines of higher food prices. Thanks goodness the CPI doesn't include the volatility of food and energy, because the purpose of having a CPI is to produce a smooth line on a chart, not to get an indicator for prices or anything. The DOW rises and falls every day. Why isn't anyone proposing a DOW comprised only of companies that rise very slowly and predictably? My guess is they would rather have an indicator that indicated something.
Edit: I just wanted to add that we are now monetizing our debt. Rather than selling it off, the fed is buying our deficit spending with created money, creating pure inflation right now. Look at gas prices and keep in mind that the storage facility for oil, I think, Cushing, OK is at one of the highest points in history. We literally have gas up the wazoo. Inflation is effecting prices much more than Middle East events. I wouldn't be surprised if the timing of these events weren't coincidental.
And when money is in a bank, the bank can loan an entrepreneur money to start a business that hires people. If the money is invested, it will provide capital for a business to expand. If $1 dollar is consumed, one person can have a candy bar. If $1 is saved, $10 will go towards a small business that might provide a continual source of income and services for many people. If we consume with deficit spending, one person can have a candy bar and his progeny will have to continue paying interest on it. Would the solution be to have a candy bar consuming economy because the GDP numbers will look good?

I guarantee America has all the technology required to make components for a phone battery.
And yes, I'd pay more for EVERYTHING I buy if I knew that an American was making it here in America. That means more people working fair-wage jobs, paying taxes, and contributing to the economy by spending THEIR money in the economy as well.
The 'fair' wages and high standard of living the US enjoyed in the past came in large part from exports, ie participation in the global market. The same global market, driven by capitalism, that now demands a reverse in your fortunes because you can no longer compete... the rest of us have no interest in buying US products if they're not competitive, and without our markets your businesses, even those as successful as Apple, wouldn't survive or benefit the US economy as much as they do.

The "tests" kind of sucked and wasn't that informative. Didn't tell us a whole lot...but either way I hope they get into the MBPs!!

I've now read through all 48 comments and I just ordered the Tom Tom Car Kit for $87....here's why. At this price, its a phenomenal deal for the following reasons:
a) I needed a Bluetooth Speakerphone (the law in CA) and was looking at the BluAnt for $79. For a few dollars more, I get a lot more.
b) I love that it is a powered cradle/dock as the current one I have is always a hassle trying to plug in for power, and these apps drain power big time. I use Navigon....it's fabulous.
c) I can directly connect the 3.5mm line out right into my car system and even plug in an FM transmitter when I travel to output the sound from my iPhone 3Gs. Now I can tuck these cables away leaving enough slack to turn it to landscape, but its all ready to use by just snapping the phone in.
d) The enhanced gps receiver chip seems to make quite a difference in the numerous tests you can view on Youtube. Much faster response time when re-routing occurs in "low signal areas". One test in particular left the un-aided iPhone without a signal for quite a long time. Even if we all start using the new Google Maps app, this chip will greatly enhance its performance, too.
e) Landscape mode is fast and easy which is not available in my current dock configuration. A simple, no frills dock like the Kensington that has no power connect, no bluetooth speakerphone, no gps chip, etc lists for $40.
This purchase at this price is a no brainer.

i'm still baffled why nobody's answered my question. anyone with a g5 powermac upgrade to an off the shelf video card yet?
i wonder about video card compatibility because i don't see a single driver on nvidia or ati for mac. and the specifications for the 1900 xfx and nvidia 7950 both don't even list mac compatibility. this is really making me think twice about buying from apple.
